Albuquerque Photos

Here are four scenes from Nob Hill, Albuquerque. Nob Hill is a colorful, urbane mix of art galleries, antique shops, clothing boutiques, jewelry stores, music venues and theaters. The heart of Nob Hill is Central Avenue, the old Route 66. This is the best preserved and most vibrant part of Route 66 as it runs through the heart of downtown Albuquerque.

These photos were shot about three years ago using Fuji negative film (I think it was Fuji Superia, 200ASA) and a beautifully preserved Minolta Srt-201. What a lovely and well crafted camera! All photos were scanned using a Nikon Coolscan V. I cannot sell these images as the original negatives were part of a large collection lost during my move to Phoenix . . . sigh . . .

Photo: The Bosque in Winter, Rio Grande, Albuquerque, New Mexico

This lovely capture of the Bosque, Rio Grande, Albuquerque, New Mexico showcases the inviting colors of a New Mexico sunset. It also showcases the quality the Nikon D40 DSLR camera can produce at its highest ISO setting. I accidentally had set the camera to 3200 ISO, normally far too high for this sort of detailed, low light photography. The resulting image is grainy, yet the full range of subtle color and detail is still captured in this image. In fact, the fine grain enhances the mood of the image! This is one of my favorite captures of the Rio Grande Bosque.

This photo shows the Bosque of the venerable Rio Grande in Albuquerque, New Mexico at rest in the winter. The sleeping cottonwoods form a silhouette against a brilliant sunset. In any season, the Bosque of the Rio Grande is worth a visit!
