Photo: Papago Park Red Rock Buttes in Shadow

This photo shows red rock buttes in Papago Park, Phoenix, Arizona with a bit of intriguing shadow and light play at sunset. I particularly like how the light gently rakes over the subtle undulations in the foreground. This was captured with one of my favorite lenses, the Asashi (Pentax) 28mm F3.5 lens in M42 mount. This 40 year old classic prime was mounted on my Sony Alpha A-200 for this photo. Although this lens is no longer a true wide angle on a DSLR (it becomes the equivalent of 42mm on the A200) it has a wonderful way of rendering subtle colors and details.

This image shows a red rock formation in Papago Park, Phoenix, Arizona surrounded by a short-lived display of winter color. In fact, I will need to wait until next winter to see these bluish-hued blossoms again. Their appearance is entirely dependent upon the generosity of summer monsoon rains.

This was captured with a Sony Alpha A-200 DSLR (Sony’s low cost 10 megapixel DSLR) combined with a 40-year old Asashi (Pentax) 28mm F:3.5 prime lens in M42 mount (m42-Sony lens mount adapter). This classic lens performs beautifully on modern DSLR’s, rendering beautiful colors and sharp edge-to-edge results. It is also quite good at rendering very subtle colorations in low light scenes like this one. This is also one of the few times that I shot in-camera jpeg instead of raw. I am quite pleased with the way the camera rendered the default scene. Other than a touch of sharpening and saturation, there was no post-processing required.

This photo shows the red rock buttes of Papago Park, Phoenix, Arizona in the warm glow of sunrise light. The sun has just begun to peek over the horizon, and bathes the landscape in a warm glow that accentuates the red rock color. Five minutes later and the hot glare of summer sun takes over!

This photo shows ongoing construction in Copper Square, Downtown Phoenix, Arizona. It captures two symbols of the rapid development of this downtown metropolis, the metro light rails rushing by and the emerging high-rise taking shape on the Phoenix skyline. To be truthful, the third element of this photo is my favorite. A beautiful blue Phoenix sky lightly sprinkled with wispy clouds! A moderately warm day in downtown Phoenix is a beautiful thing!
