“We aren’t in an information age, we are in an entertainment age.” —Anthony Robbins
A walk through Times Square, New York City, reminds me of the old Roman ploy of “bread and circuses.” The Romans craftily kept the masses sated by providing them with plenty of free food, cheap wine, and violent entertainment in the gladiatorial coliseums. In our modern society, the biggest crowds gather to be entertained. Our lives are consumed with sports, an unending stream of violent entertainment and of course, cheap junk food to fuel our recreation. Don’t get me wrong, entertainment has its place in all of our lives. However, it has become all-consuming to the point of distraction in modern society. Nonetheless, the colors of Times Square do engage the eye of the photographer!

This setting shows a trail in the Jemez Mountains, New Mexico with a popular fishing stream just behind it. It is essentially the same location as in this Jemez Mountains photo, which was shot in the summer. In any season, unique color palette of this Jemez red rock setting is visually captivating! Photo captured with the Nikon D40 and 18-55m lens.

This is a close-up of yellow daisies seen in the Rio Grande Botanic Garden in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It reflects one of my favorite techniques in flower photography: Using the colors of adjacent flowers to create blurred colors (bokeh) in the background. The blurred pink colors in the background are others flowers intentionally out of focus (by using a large aperture) to create a pleasing background for the foreground flowers.

Camera: Nikon D40, Nikon 55-200mm VR lens, Nikon 3T Close-Up Diopter.

Here are photos of the 2006 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Most of the week many events were rained out. However, the week finished in a blaze of color as the weather cleared in time for the Special Shapes Rodeo. Enjoy the photos!
